Why moulding pressure matters

A hand-tamped block and a hydraulically moulded block can look similar on a pallet and behave very differently in a wall. Compaction pressure determines density; density drives durability, edge integrity and how much mortar and plaster the wall eventually absorbs.

Our units are formed under consistent hydraulic pressure from a batched mix, then transferred and cured under controlled conditions rather than left to dry in open sun. The commercial benefit is waste: fewer broken corners in handling, less dressing on site, and fewer surprises when the plasterer arrives.

Block size comparison: 4, 6 & 8 inch

• 6 inch — our most ordered block: the general-purpose size for external and main walls in most Zanzibar houses, villas and hotels
• 4 inch — internal partitions, bathroom and non-load-bearing walls
• 8 inch — heavier sections, perimeter and retaining applications where the engineer specifies

Production & curing

Every block is formed by automated hydraulic moulding from a mix batched under control, then cured under controlled conditions before it is approved for dispatch. Units receive a visual and dimensional check before release.

Testing and strength data are issued once confirmed through production testing — we do not quote a strength figure as a marketing number.

Block pricing & bulk orders

Block prices in Zanzibar are confirmed by written quotation. To price a bulk order, send the quantity per size or the wall area in m², the block size, solid or hollow if specified, the site location and the dates you need blocks on site.

Large walling packages are produced to programme and delivered in phases, so the site receives what it can store and lay.

Blocks or bricks? Same product, different word

In Zanzibar the words are used interchangeably: buyers ask for bricks, cement bricks, blocks, cement blocks or concrete blocks and mean the same hydraulically pressed cement unit. Fired clay bricks are not a standard walling material on the island, so if a fundi or a BOQ says bricks, it almost always means the concrete block described on this page.

What matters when you order is the nominal size — 4, 6 or 8 inch — whether the unit is hollow or solid, and the quantity by wall area. Give us those three things and the terminology takes care of itself.

Ordering and lead time

Blocks are produced to order against your quantity and required date. Because curing is part of the process and cannot be shortened without affecting the unit, ordering ahead of the wall programme is the single most useful thing a site can do. Tell us the date the blocks are needed on site, not the date you would like to place the order.
